Geneva Motor Show

This week was an insane week for car releases. Automotive fans around the world got to the see unveiling of some of the craziest and most anticipated cars of the year.  Despite the Geneva Motor Show being cancelled due to fears of the Coronavirus, car companies still held the unveiling of their new cars. I will talk about what I think was the two biggest releases: the Koenigsegg Gemera and the Mclaren 765LT.

Koenigsegg is known for making some of the craftiest and fastest mega cars in the world. They make the Agera, which holds the production car top speed record of 275 mph. They never shy away from innovation either. Their other car, the Regera, has no gears, which is just insane to think about. This new car, the Gemera, might just be one of the wildest cars ever built. While all their other cars are 2-seaters, the Gemera will be a four-seater mega car, the first car ever of its type. It looks incredible, it has no b-pillars, so the entire side of the car opens up, unveiling easy access to the rear seats. Now to talk about what powers it. The Gemera puts down 1700HP. Yeah, you heard that right. 1700HP in a four seater. The car is powered by a 2.0 Liter 3 cylinder that produces 600 horsepower and 442 lb ft of torque. Oh, and it also as no camshafts and can run on 100% alcohol, producing almost zero emissions. The other 1100HP comes from 3 electric motors. With all this power, you can take 3 friends from 0-60 in a blistering 1.9 seconds. This just might be one of my favorite cars I have ever seen. It looks so beautiful. Koenigsegg is creating a whole new class of cars with this. They go where no car companies have gone before, and just keep innovating. The fact that they can get this much power out a 3-cylinder is incredible. and no camshafts either. It is a feat of engineering. I will link a video from Engineering Explained below explaining how it works. Oh and an interesting fact: it also has 8 cup holders to keep your drinks both hot and cold. Koenignsegg is changing the game with this car.  I can't wait until its release and see it on the road, that is if anyone can afford it.

Mclaren 765LT

The next biggest release this week is the new Mclaren 765LT. It is the more hardcore race version of the insanely popular 720s. The original 720s was an outstanding car. Insanely quick, packed with so much performance and now, they have made it even better. The 765LT uses the same engine as the 720s, but puts out more horsepower at 754. It gets its power increase by using parts from Mclaren's most hardcore track focused car, the Senna. When it comes to weight savings, Mclaren was able to shave 176 pounds off, compared to the 720s, helping it get to 0-60 a tenth of a second quicker at 2.6 seconds, which is so quick for a rear wheel drive car. The updated looks of the car are amazing as well. More aero in the front and rear, as well as a much larger wing. The new exhaust system comes to 4 pipes in the back, that dominant the rear end of the car and give it a stand out look. Mclaren will only be making 765 units at a base price of $375,000. I never got a chance to drive the 720s, I however was able to get a ride in the 600LT, Mclaren's super popular hardcore version of the 570s, and I will say, the speed and the sound was out of this world. If McLaren can copy that performance in this car, then this is sure to be a car to have.
